What is GoodProspects®?

GoodProspects® is a virtual community where entry- and mid-level career advancers can build job skills, explore career paths and get personalized help from peers and virtual mentors. GoodProspects is supported by Goodwill®, one of America's largest nonprofits and a recognized leader in helping people find jobs, get training and grow their careers. The site, originally built with support from the U.S. Department of Labor, was overhauled in 2015 with support from Accenture. Learn more about GoodProspects.

How can I support GoodProspects job seekers?

While we do not list job openings directly on the GoodProspects site, Goodwill Industries International partners with Indeed, the world's leading job search engine, to help you locate relevant job opportunities near you. Just visit our Search Job Opportunities page and input your ZIP or Postal Code to see a listing of jobs in your area; your search results will open on the Indeed site in a new window. By default, you'll see positions at Goodwill organization first; once on the site, however, you can expand your search to all companies.

Your GoodProspects Account

How do I create an account with GoodProspects?

Ready to sign up for GoodProspects? Visit our homepage and click the orange Sign Up Today button to start the registration process. To register, you'll need to provide us with a minimum of your first name, last name, email address and ZIP or postal code, then agree to our terms and conditions. We encourage you to complete your entire profile, however, to benefit from recommended content and features.

What do you do with the personal information I provide?

Goodwill Industries International (GII) recognizes the importance of protecting information we collect from you on the GoodProspects site. Our policy is to use the information we acquire from you for correspondence or to recommend content or services, and we maintain appropriate security measures to keep this information private.

How do I edit my profile information on GoodProspects?

We encourage you to update your profile information regularly on GoodProspects to share your latest news and accomplishments. You may edit your profile at any time by clicking on your name at the top of the page. Doing so will display your profile page. Click the "Edit Profile" button at the top of the page to make changes to your information.

I forgot my password - can you help me reset it?

Getting a new password is easy. After clicking the login link at the top of the page, choose the "Request New Password" option from the menu. You'll receive an email notification with a one-time-only and time-sensitive link to log in to the site and reset your password.

I see the name and contact info for a local Goodwill on my profile. What does that mean?

The Goodwill network is composed of 162 autonomous, community-based organizations in the United States and Canada, each offering customized training and services for individuals who want to find a job, pursue a credential or degree, and strengthen their finances.

We use the ZIP or Postal Code provided on registration to match you to the Goodwill organization providing career services in your area. We encourage you to visit their website and reach out to them for additional information on in-person career support services available near you.


Career Navigator, Badges and Points

How does the Career Navigator work?

The Career Navigator is an in interactive checklist to take you through a series of career objectives and activities. You can use the navigator to complete essential steps like exploring your interests, writing your Résumé and cover letter, networking, earning credentials or degrees and more.

Click on a navigator item to read related articles, watch videos and see infographics related to the topic. Use the information you've learned to help complete job-readiness activities offline such as improving your Résumé and cover letter. Once you feel like you've successfully completed an item, check it off your list.

The Career Navigator saves your progress so your checklist is up to date each time you log in.

How does the progress bar work?

Your progress bar shows how much progress you've made on your journey to career and financial stability. Each time you check off an item on your Career Navigator checklist, you'll see your progress bar percentage increase.

How do badges work?

As you check items off your Career Navigator and complete additional activities on the site, you have the opportunity to earn badges as digital recognition of how much you've learned on the site. Learn more about how badging works and the different badges you can earn.

How do points work?

Another way you can earn badges is by accumulating points on the site. You receive points for taking actions like posting in the discussion forums, registering for career events, and more. Visit your profile to view your current point total, as well as a list of all of your point-earning activities.


Virtual Mentoring

How does virtual mentoring work?

Goodwill recruits experts from our corporate sponsors, partner organizations and the public to serve as GoodProspects virtual mentors. Job seekers and career advancers in need of one-on-one support can request a mentor and, once matched, use the site's messaging feature to ask questions and receive advice. Mentees and mentors are expected to check in with one another on a regular basis -- we suggest dedicating 1-2 hours per week to the relationship.

How do I request a virtual mentor?

To request a virtual mentor, visit our Request a Mentor page and complete the application form. In the form, we'll ask you to provide us with some details that will help us determine what type of mentor you need and recommend available mentors to you. Once you complete the application form, you'll see a list of mentors most relevant to your needs and send a mentoring request to the person you're most interested in working with.

How do I become a virtual mentor?

Thanks for your interest in helping people find work, advance their careers and strengthen their finances. To become a virtual mentor on the GoodProspects site, please visit our mentor application form, fill it out with your information and click submit. A member of the GoodProspects team will review your application and be in touch with next steps. All mentors must complete a phone interview with a Goodwill Industries International staff member, as well as complete a background check screening.

What if I don't hear from my mentor?

First, make sure that you're giving your mentor a reasonable amount of time to respond. Most mentors are working professionals who devote evenings and weekends to GoodProspects support. Make sure you give them at least 48 hours to respond to your message. If you have messaged your mentor more than two times and received no response, email the GoodProspects team at goodprospects@goodwill.org and we'll follow up with the mentor. If the mentor is no longer available, we will help you connect to another one of our experts.

How do I end a mentoring relationship?

Once your mentoring relationship has been successfully completed -- or, if you wish to terminate the relationship early -- you can officially end your mentoring relationship in the GoodProspects system. This has the added benefit of making your mentor available to help another individual in need. Mentees can visit the "Connect with Mentor" page to see their current mentor and click a button to end the relationship.

How do I report inappropriate conduct in a mentoring relationship?

If you are uncomfortable at any time during your mentoring relationship, you can officially end your GoodProspects mentoring relationship with the individual in question using the directions provided above. Additionally, if you feel a mentor or mentee has acted inappropriately during your interactions, please let the GoodProspects team know by sending a message to goodprospects@goodwill.org with as many details as possible about what occurred.


Discussion Forums (Ask the Community)

How do discussion forums work?

GoodProspects features career-focused discussion forums spanning 11 industries--visit our Ask the Community page to see a complete list of sectors. Within each forum, job seekers, Goodwill staff and experts can post questions, share resources and respond to conversations on the boards. This is your chance to connect with others pursuing similar career goals and access advice and resources on what it takes to be successful therein.

How do I join a discussion forum?

There are two ways to join a discussion forum. First, simply post an update or ask a question within a given forum. When you do, you'll be automatically added to that forum. Second, on the Ask the Community page, click the "follow" button next to any forum to join that group.

How do I post a question in the discussion forum?

First, navigate to the discussion forum in which you want to post (e.g. Retail). In the center of the screen, you'll see a "create a post" section. Enter your question, comment or resource in the text box, then click "Post." Your contribution will appear in the discussion forum for others to view and respond to.

How do I know if someone responds to my discussion forum post?

When you create a post in the discussion forum, you'll automatically receive an email notification when someone responds to your post.

How do I report an inappropriate comment or thread on a discussion forum?

To report an inappropriate comment or discussion thread in the forum, first click on the thread in question. On the page that appears, you'll see a link reading "Mark as inappropriate." Click that link to share your concerns with the GoodProspects team.


Events

How do events work?

The events tab aggregates a listing of in-person career events hosted by Goodwill's 162 organziations in the US and Canada, along with virtual events that you can participate in from the comfort of your home.

How do I find an event happening near me?

At the top of the events page, enter your city and/or state/province and click the "search" button. You can also filter by event type and date. After clicking "search," a list of events will populate on the map, with detailed listings appearing below.

What if I don't see any events near me?

If you don't see any events in your area, it might be that your local Goodwill organization has not provided any events to the GoodProspects team, or does not have any events currently scheduled in the near future. Contact your local Goodwill to inquire about events happening in your area.

How do I search for virtual events?

To see online career events, click "Virtual Event" from the "Event Type" dropdown menu and click "search."
